On October 6 Karen Gibson was presented with a plaque honoring her for 30 years of service as Music Director. Karen was educated at Longwood College receiving a Bachelor Degree in Music Education and a Masters of Science Degree, in which she was allowed to take all electives in music. (No Masters of Music was available at that time at Longwood.) She later studied voice under Tucker Keiser at the community college, singing Italian opera. Karen sang for 15 years in the Southside Chorale that Keiser directed. Later she sang with the Jefferson Choral in Lynchburg. Currently, she sings with the Virginia Baptist Women's Chorale, which gives four concerts a year statewide. Karen's interest in Appalachian music and the dulcimer started in Boone, NC. Under her leadership the group Appomattox Court House Dulcimers was formed and currently consist of nine musicians. We thank Karen for sharing her musical talents, for her dedication, and for her encouragement. We look forward to another thirty years.
